Privacy Screening Without Building a Wall

If the problem is being overlooked rather than the boundary itself, a taller solid fence is not automatically the answer.

Slatted screens — close-spaced horizontal boards on a frame. Near-full privacy, identical from both sides, and enough air movement through the gaps that they cope better in wind than a solid panel of the same height. They read as garden design rather than boundary, which is usually why people choose them.

Trellis on an existing fence — the cheapest way to add height, but the total counts toward the planning limit, and trellis only screens once something has grown through it.

Composite — worth it where the run is long and you never want to treat it. Composite fencing holds its colour well past ten years.

One honest caveat: no fence fixes being overlooked from an upstairs window. A 2m boundary screens ground-floor sightlines and nothing above them. If that is the real problem, planting or a pergola will do more than another foot of fence, and we would rather say so than sell you a run that does not solve it.
