Metal Railings Nottingham

spear metal railings in Nottingham
Railings typically refers to metal railings and whilst most security fencing is made from metal and follows a 'rail system' this section provides a brief overview of the options for metal railing where security is not your main consideration.
Railings in a residential setting are mostly found in front gardens or to mark an enclosure in a back garden. They are also commonly used on balconies and are made of either wrought iron or steel.
There is a large variety of designs for metal railings with many companies offering bespoke options but as with most forms of fencing they fall into broad categories.
For metal railings the main categories are:
  • Flat top
  • Spear
  • Ball top
  • Bow top
Depending on the sections of fencing required they can also be formed in shapes such as arches and can be used to provide more  character to a brick wall.

Flat top railing:
As the name suggests the top of the rail if simply a flat bar. In its most basic design another horizontal bar will run along the bottom with vertical bars running between the two. However, there are many more variations available from this basic start point - featuring circles,  waves, nodules or additional horizontal bars  to provide a more ornate design.

Spear Railings:
For domestic fencing the spear shape at the top of the vertical bars is more of a design aspect rather than a climbing deterrent. Many subtle variations of the spear design are available as well as additional design features being included in the bar section.

Ball Top:
Rather than a spear, a ball is featured at the top of the vertical bar. This again can vary in size and similar ornate design options can be found in the bar section.

Bow Top Railings Nottingham

School Railings Nottingham

Whilst most of a bow top railing is vertical, the tops as the name implies are bowed but since they form a complete connection they are occasionally referred to as hoop railing. High bow railing is popular for the outsides of schools as they are less imposing the spear top fencing and provide a sense of enclosure and marking a boundary rather than a harsh security fence, which can provide an intimidating presence.
