Getting Rid of the Old Panels in Nottingham City
Bulwell is inside the city boundary, and that changes things. Nottingham City Council is a unitary authority, so unlike everywhere else in the county it runs both the bin collections and its own tip. In practice that works in your favour, with one significant catch.
The tip is the Household Waste and Recycling Centre on Redfield Road, on Lenton Industrial Estate, NG7 2UJ. It is open every day of the year except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, and it accepts DIY waste — which is notably more generous than the Nottinghamshire County Council sites just outside the city, where DIY waste is capped at two bags or a single item per visit with a limit of four visits every four weeks.
Two catches worth knowing
City residents only. Redfield Road is for Nottingham City households, and you may be asked to produce a driving licence as proof. If you live just outside the boundary you need a county site instead, under the stricter county rules.
Do not borrow a van. The city accepts no trade waste at all, and turning up in a commercial vehicle with your own household waste means you are, in the council's own words, likely to be questioned. Plenty of people borrow a work van to shift a load of fence panels and find it is the wrong move.

The city's brown-lidded garden waste bin will not help either way. It is a paid subscription at around £35 a year, halved to about £17.50 for households on Council Tax reduction, with roughly £25 one-off if you need the bin itself. The season runs April to November only — fortnightly until September, then monthly for October and November, and nothing at all from December through March. It takes grass, leaves and hedge cuttings, not treated wood, and side waste is never collected.
Fence Heights and Permission
Permitted development in England generally allows 2 metres at a rear or side boundary and 1 metre where the boundary fronts a highway, footpaths beside roads included. Gravel boards and trellis both count towards the finished height.
